Profalk is an italian MoD research program. Profalk is a CLASS II VTOL UAS with fuel cell technology for Tactical surveillance operations and sea patrolling. The prandtl-plane configuration assures an high flying efficiency and an high structural robustness while reducing the wing span.
Profalk is in advanced stage of development and the detailed design has been completed. In order to validate the aerodynamic model, a 1:1 scale mock-up was tested in the wind tunnel facility of the ''Politecnico di Milano'' University.
The estimated aerodynamic coefficients have been succesfully confirmed by the experiments and the mathematical model has been updated.

The Lyra programme represents an important evolution of the small european launcher Vega, whose first launch is scheduled for the end of this year. The main objectives of the Lyra programme are the increment of performance of the Vega by the use of a LOX-Methane upper stage engine (which will substitute the 3rd and 4th stage of the Vega launcher) and a new GNC architecture based on an innovative control design developed by UTRI.
Yesterday July the 1st in the italian space agency (asi) UTRI succesfully presented the key features of the actual work package which completes the preliminary design of the on-board trajectory control based on an innovative self-scheduled approach.
Numerous reserch insitutes and companies were involved in the meeting in ASI: elv SpA, Elsag Datamat, Avio, and the University of Rome ''La Sapienza''

UTRI, although this year not attending the 48th International Paris Air Show, is exhibiting a new jointly developing UAV at the Finmeccanica stand.
The product exposed is a jointly development porgramme with Selex Galileo (a Fimenccanica Group Company) of a Short Take-Off and Landing Optionally Piloted Vehicle (STOL OPV).
The STOL OPV, named Gheppio, is based on a modified ULM two-seater Gyroplane, an Electro-Optic and/or SAR Payload and a Ground Controll Station. It will operate in three different modes:
1. Manned: aircraft flown and payload operated by the pilot
2. Semi-manned: aircraft flown by pilot, payload controlled via the GCS
3. Unmanned: both aircraft and payload remotely operated via GCS
The system will perform airborne surveillance and reconnaissance over civilian/industrial installations like ports, power plants, pipelines etc.

UTRI, during a recent test in front of a new client, has recently conducted a successful demonstration of the ASIO mini electrical VTOL system.
The UTRI technicians have shown the different capabilities of the system performing different test flights in automous, semiautonomous and manual mode, and in different enviromental conditions (wind gusts and steady wind).
The exercise demonstrated the capabilities of the ASIO system, among which the endurance, the autonomous navigation by way points, the autonomous take off and landing capabilities, hovering and perching capabilities of the system. During this demo also the quality, distance of the data and communication link, the paylod capabilities of transmitting form over 10 Kms real time imagery during day and night operations were demonstrated.
The tests were succesfull in order to further support the demos plan under which the Company is working totgher with its commercial partners on a worlwide basis.
The ASIO is a mini electrical VTOL UAV system which can be easly deployed and operated by one person. Its light wight, flight and payload capabilities are particularly suited for different kind of military and paramilitary operations such as Surveillance, Reconnaissance, IED detection, convoy protection, military urban operation, border patrol, perimeter protection.
